Grip Kit Requirements
For Permits and Members in the Grip Department, the following are the required and recommended kit lists for Set and for Rigging.
Failure to have the required items of this kit could result in being sent home.
It is recommended that all technicians have a film technician tool belt, utility chest pack, or shoulder harness.
Set – Tools required to be carried at all times
- 10 inch or 8-inch adjustable crescent-type wrench (1-1/2” recommended opening)
- Utility knife (disposable blade type with sharp blade)
- Black sharpie type marker
- Multi-tool with pliers (i.e. Leatherman, Gerber, etc)
- Hex-key set including sizes up to minimum 5/16
- Work gloves
- Small notepad and pencil/pen
- Appropriate tool belt or chest-pack system (capable of one-handed access)
Rigging- Tools required to be carried in your rigging bag
In addition to the tools required for on set work, a rigging Grip is required to bring
- 1/2-inch drive ratchet
- 13/16-inch-deep socket
- 7/8-inch-deep socket
- 15/16-inch-deep socket
- 3/8-inch drive ratchet
- 3/16-inch hex key socket
- 5/16-inch hex key socket

Clothing – Recommended
It is your responsibility to dress and equip yourself appropriately for work.
Your preparedness is a statement about your professionalism to others on set. Be prepared!
- Clean indoor work appropriate clothing, including non-marking footwear.
- Hot weather gear: hat, sunglasses, loose-fitting clothing, and additional long sleeves to reduce sun exposure.
- Full rain gear: jacket/coat, pants, hat, gloves, footwear, waterproof bag(s).
- Cold weather gear: toque/hat, gloves (liner type gloves plus well insulated mittens recommended), insulated work gloves, insulated boots, insulated green patch boots, wind/waterproof pants, and shell jacket, insulated coat.
- Footwear: green patch footwear option for all weather conditions. Waterproof shoes/boots for exterior work. Good traction/anti- slip treads. Comfortable soles for long shifts.
Grip Tips:
- Consider a layered clothing system during cold and/or wet conditions.
- Moisture-wicking base layers (Merino wool).
- Fast-drying mid-layers and breathable waterproof outer layers (Gore-Tex) help to manage heat and moisture at varying activity levels.
- Always pack one extra layer above what you think is necessary for cold conditions.
- Extra footwear, socks, underwear, and base layers in case you get wet.
